Notes on the composition of the panels for the 2010 season and selection of a team for a given match
County Board rules specify that:
1. Players in the A panel cannot play in A1 matches.
2. Players on A1 can only play twice in A matches. If a girl plays more than twice with the A panel they are deemed to be on the A panel and cannot play again with the A1 panel.
3. A minimum of 15 players is needed for an A match. A minimum of 11 is needed for an A1 match but if the opposition can play more then we also play more, up to a max of 15.
With our numbers we can normally field 15 players. But unless properly managed it is possible that our A1 panel, 22 players could turn out to face 11. While at the same time our other team could be short players. To prevent such a daft situation it is really important that if a girl is unavailable for a match parents text me in advance so I know how many and who I may need to move between the panels.
Our main aim in 2010 is to develop the squad as a whole. As a club with large numbers we must divide our squad into two panels. Many of the clubs we play do not have our numbers and have only one team, which in effect is that club’s A team. This means that our A1 panel will frequently have play an A team. Therefore when compiling the panels we compiled two roughly balanced panels with movement from the A1 panel to the A panel for some matches. Our aim to mix players as much as possible.
In summary selection of a team for a given match mainly depends on:
1. The number of players that are available on that day. For this reason it is really important to text if your daughter cannot make a match
2. Our opposition and their numbers.
If you have any questions or comments on this please contact Dave Fenton.
Many thanks to all for your continued support for this great bunch of girls.

1999 Na Fianna Girls Footbal – U-11 Season (2010)
The girls are starting into another season and there are a few things that we need to tell you as there are some differences between the 2009 and 2010 league structure. In particular in 2010:
- we go from 4 balanced teams playing nine a-side to two streamed teams playing up to 15 a side
- we play in a competitive league in matches against clubs located throughout the city. The league begins Saturday 6th March.
1. Streaming the girls’ teams means that, in general, the girls are grouped by their ability so that they are playing with and against girls of comparable skils. The County Board's league structure requires us to stream as Clubs like Na Fianna who enter two teams must enter one team in two different leagues. While this is a change we are hopeful that it will help ensure maximum enjoyment for the girls by providing a beneficial competitive environment for them.
2. In choosing streamed panels we have taken account of the girl’s abilities but also of parents who wish to have girls on the same team so to help with lifts etc. If you feel your daughter is not in the correct panel please let us know and we can discuss re-arranging.
3. A girl’s footballing ability is not the only criteria in choosing a panel commitment is also very important. A roll will be kept of girls who attend training and matches and this will be considered when picking teams.
4. Number jerseys are required in the 2010 league. These are very expensive for the club so we are looking at cheaper options such as having a number stitched on the existing jersey. This will cost €2.50 per jersey and we will get back to you soon with further details.
5. To help us plan for 2010 it is very important we know if you can commit to football for the year. Training on Tuesday 5:30pm and a match 5pm every Saturday can be difficult especially with other commitments the girls or siblings may have. So if your daughter is named on a panel and you feel she cannot commit to football this year please let us know.
Thanks again for your continued support for these great girls since their nursery years and we look forward to great games and fun in 2010.
