Championship 2008 update
a great start to our championship campaign V Lucan on Sunday 14th Sept It was the toughest most physical game we had all season, Lucan had a much stronger team then they had on Thurs night last for League, their under 14 feile winning girls really add to their strenght. Neither team wanted to loose this game so it was a battle from begining to end. for NaF it was not about individuals, it was about a great team performance, Aoife started the scoring with a point from play and lucan followed with a goal from play, a goal for Lauren, Brigitte and Leah and a further point and 2 goals from Lucan left NaF up 2 points with 5 mins to go, we had been in the same position in the league game early summer and we ended up giving away a goal and lossing by a point, we could not do that again, so there was a strong battle by our backs supported by Lucy and Khloe to keep Lucan from getting near the NaF goal, and our forwards continue to work hard to try and get another score, we could relax a little when Lisa point over a very nice point from the corner and then followed up with a goal with a min or two to go, final score 4.2 to 2.2 to NaF.
Well done to the whole team from Amy in goals, she could not do much about the 2 goals they did score and certainly made some good saves, to a hard working back line of Katie P, Susan and Anne, Katie P adding alot to the full back line in way of speed and skill, she has been a revalation since early summer playing in corner back having always played corner forward, the half back line of Leah, Aine and Karen worked very hard to keep the possession with NaF and the mid field of Lucy and Khloe worked very well, great to see Lucy back at her best, they supported well our defense and our attack
the half forward line of Orla, Aoife and Laura in the first half worked extremely well with each player supporting eachother and when orla went back to cover half back she also did a great job, our full forward line also did their work with Brigitteand Lauren scoring a goal each and lisa scoring 1.1 when we really needed it, Leah when she covered corner forward also got a great goal at a time when we really needed
so well done to all next game at Home to Boden on Tuesay 23rd Sept
We played a great game last night V Boden, who themselves have much improved and have some very skilled players, We started a bit slow but Lorna got us going with a goal, followed by a point from Boden and another goal by Lorna followed by another point by Boden, at half time we were 2.0 to 0.2. Amy had made some good saves and our full back line was well able to control their full forward line, Leah did a great job making Emma Doyle one of Boden's best players and our mid field and half forward line were winning alot of possession putting alot of ball forward. In the second half NaF really stood up to Boden with Khloe scoring two goals and Lorna adding another two to her tally and Lucy putting over a point, Boden themselves scored a goal and two more points in the second half, they could have had more goals but Amy played very well in goals to keep them out, Katie Pringle definitely adds something to the full back line with her speed and accuracy and Susan had a very good game. Anne followed by Katie O shea also did a good job marking the Boden corner forward. the Half back line did great work with Aine, leah and Eleanor battling for every ball and coming away with most of the possession, Khloe and Lucy won mid Field both having good games, and the half forward line of Laura (especially good in the second half) Aoife (who had one of her best games and was noted by the referring as having a fine game) and Orla all fought hard to keep possession and put alot of ball to the forward line, for our next game we would love to see our half forwards going for scores themselves not always just putting ball into the full forwards
on the Day Lorna was our best forward, scoring 4 goals in all, having had a bad day V plunkets she certainly made up for it today, Lauren was well marked by the full back and brigitte who took over in the second half the same, and Lisa althought tried failed to score which was unusual for Lisa, Karen came on in the corner in the second half and battled away though we know she prefers to play back, Ciara came on the other corner for Lorna but did not get a chance to score herself
a good evenings work, now we have the semi to look forward to on the 5th Oct
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The start of the second half of the season did not go as well as the first half, as of 18th August the league was divided into top 5 bottom 5 to give all teams another 4 games,We played our first of these last 4 against Judes who we had beaten well earlier in the year (though they did have a weaken team) and we lost by a goal, we had a poor first half letting in 4 relatively easy goals but came back strong in the second half where they only got a goal, and we got quite a number of scores but mainly points, final score 2.6 to 5.0. We were very disappointed, Aine was on hols, Lucy was struggling with injury and a couple of our stronger players did not have a great day, Khloe was still very strong in Mid field and Laura at half forward and Leah had half back had a great game with Eleanor Buggy playing a super game covering center back for Aine, Eleanor got a nasy injury to her big toe in the first half but went on to have a really good game.
The second match out was V Lucan and this went much better though again we know Lucan were short of players not having any of the feile winning under 14's out with them.some really good performances again by Eleanor covering for Khloe Mid Field who got injured with the first 10 mins having already scored 1.1, Lucy was back on form playing excellent in Mid field, Leah and Karen worked very hard in the half back line with Aine marking their best player her first game back after holidays and a bout of the chicken pox, Susan did well at full back though the back line did not have a huge amount to do and Amy did her job and handled anything that did come her way. the half forward line were very strong supporting each other throughout the game with Orla Keegan having probarly the best game this year and Aoife back on form and Laura battling hard, Lauren did well full forward taking a lovely score supported by her corner forwards. It was good to see so many scorers on the sheet Orla, Aoife, Khloe, Lauren, Laura, Lisa
our next game was V plunkets and we all knew it was going to be tough but we started very poorly and let in 4 goals within the first ten mins, after that Lucy went in full back and we moved Susan out Mid Field which did give us better options
we ended up lossing 8.2 to 3.1 in the end but certainly in the second half and even in the later stages of the first half we did give Plunkets a decent game
We need to beat Boden in our last game to finish at least joint second with Judes
A super win last Sun 28th Sept V Boden in our last league game should be enough to secure runners up in the under 15 Div 1 league. some super displays on the Day with Lucy coming out the 'player of the day'. Alot of girls contributed to our winning score line of 9.2 to 1.3 (although we actually think the ref got it wrong we counted 3 points scored, two from lucy one for Lisa) The goals were scored by a number of girls, Lauren, Khloe, aoife, lisa, brigitte, ciara
Really it was a game where alot of the girls played really well, even though she was not well at half time Aoife had a great first half, and even though Khloe pulled a muscle she played super having been moved forward from mid field, Eleanor did a great job covering in mid field, Orla keegan even with a sprained wrist did very well moving back in the second half to cover for some changes that we had to make, even Laura covered Center back at one stage and did very well. Lauren had a really good game in full forward and Leah as usual battled away in the half back line and was well supported on the other back wing by Katie P. Katie O shea did very well when she came on half way through the first half, Anne leen started very strong and even continued with a badly marked leg which resulted after she got a 'clatter' of a Hurl, Susan had a really good game in full back and Amy had another good game in goals, a great team effort and a great result for the last game of the league
---------------------------------------------------------------
Under 15 Camogie had a decent game v Th Davis out there sun 27th. We were very short on numbers with Lucy away and our 3 '94's who had played football feile not travelling with us so on the day we have 15 players a few of whom were not well. but all in all the girls played a decent match with Aine Gaughin back in form and giving a great performance at center back, with Lorna Muleady coving at half back (after having only a couple of hours sleep having come back early from the UK to play our match) gave a great display. With Lucy missing at mid field Laura and Katie P shared the position both working very hard, with Khloe scoring two points from the other mid field postion. On a day where it was hard to get goals due to a strong goal keeper and full back from Th Davis, points really counted, and we have to say that the the player of the game was Aoife Caffrey who scored 1.10 out of a tally of 1.13. Aoife was on scoring form scoring 8 of the 10 points from play 2 from free's. Ciara got the other point from corner forward keeping up her scoring ways from the past couple of games, the girls were tired by the end of the game with having no subs and in the last ten mins we were down to 14 players as Anne got a terrible knock on the foot and couldn't continue. Our back line didn't have a huge amount to do but did what they needed to do to keep Th Davis from scoring any more than a 'soft enough' goal given away in the first half.
We have now finished our first round of matches (our Match V Finbars on the 11th May has been given to us as a walkover) and we await other results to see how the next set of matches will be played as the top 5 and the bottom 5 play eachother again
currently we share second place to Plunkets with Judes and Lucan
Under 15 camogie had a disappointing result on Sunday 20th V Lucan, We were short of Aine our Center Back on the day and Lucy has been struggling with a knock which limits her movement but even so we should have done better. At half time we were 2.1 to 1.1 up with goals from Ciara and Katie and a Point from a Free from Aoife, we had had a great goal by Leah from about 30 yards out disallowed for a square ball but we still felt we could win the game, but it wasn't to be, we could not score in the second half and with 5 mins to go we were only two points up and Lucan scored a goal, It was a good game of camogie and Lucan were delighted to beat us but on the day none of the NaF girls were at their best.
Under 15 camogie did just about enough to beat Good Counsel on Sun 13th April - 4.2 to 2.0. Probarly not the best team performance we have seen for a while though some good individual displays frome Leah, Aoife, laura and Karen. and great work from Katie O shea and Ciara when they came on with Ciara getting two important goals. Lucy also got a goal and even though she is carrying a knock she did enough to make a difference, Aoife had a great game she notched up the other scores 1.2. credit has to be given to Good Counsel who really played a great first half and was 2 goals to a point up at half time.
a convincing win for under 15 camogie on Sun 6th April V Crumlin - 10.4 to no score. another good team display but also some great individual performances, a great first half by Lucy and Khloe in mid field with lucy scoring 2 points from frees, Lucy got a bad knock in the second half and finished the game in goals and khloe went off at half time to rest for football later in the day, Katie P started the scoring within the first minute with a brilliantly taken goal from the corner and finished the hlaf with another wonderful strike to notch another goal to her tally, Katie was rested in the second half also,Lauren who has fitted into the team scored 5 goals, an impressive tally and she moved to full back in the second half as Leah moved up to full forward and got her first goal of the year, having played a super game in half forward in the first half, Ciara also scored when she came on in the second half. Aoife had a great game, scoring 1.1 herself but she can also be congradulated for the performance and skill level she showed throughout the game, Laura also had another great game as her confidence improves game by game, her work rate was excellent and again her blocking was second to none. Eleanor and Karen continued with strong half back performances and Aine was back on track playing in center back, our full back line and Amy had little to do but am sure they will have more work to do in future matches. a good result
Under 15A camogie faced their toughest challenge on Wed 2nd April V a very strong Plunkets team who have not been beaten in any game in over two years. The NAFteam was also short of a good number of players notably Amy Ryan in Goals, Lorna agreed to step into Amy's shoes playing her first ever game in goals and gave a very good performance. Actually this has been the teams best performance ever, Plunkets would have expected to win easily as they have been doing over the past two years against every team but our girls really put it up to them with the final score 3.3 to Plunkets ,2.3 to NaF. The winner of the day really was the game of Camogie, it was a very fast intense game with some excellent displays all around the pitch by both teams, the back line of NaF fought very hard to keep Plunkets full forward line out (probarly the best full forward line in Dublin) Orla did great playing Corner back in place of Katie(who is ill) and Susan and Anne played their part too especially in the second half. the half back line of Eleanor, Aine and Karen worked like trojans to prevent a very strong half forward line of Plunkets getting space to take their shots, normally this Plunket half forward line would notch up alot of points but they did not get the space to do that on wed night, Midfield of Khloe and Aoife did a great job of keeping tight control of plunkets mid fielders, both had great games. Lucy was ill so played Center forward for a change rather than Mid field and had a super game scoring 2 of our points from Frees, Laura at right wing forward had the best game ever to win the battle V plunkets half back Laura put in some great blocks keeping the possession with NaF, Leah on the other wing also had a super game having a great Battle with a very strong Half back of Plunkets, and the full forward Line tried their best to convert as much as the could of the balls being put up to them by the half lines and mid field, Lauren had a great game, scoring both goals, not many players have scored two goals agains this strong Plunkets Team, Katie Pringle put over a lovely point in the first half when we need to get a score on the board, and lisa fought hard to get a score though it wasnt to be on the day, Ciara came on for Lisa but unfortanely not many sliotars came her way.
overall the best performance probarly ever by the Naf girls, we are very proud of them and hope this is the start of great things to come, we will have to play Plunkets again later in the Year we hope to be able to put it up to them again and hopefully this time come away with the points.
Another good win on Sun 30th March V Boden, We headed out there with 14 of our own girls plus 2 under 14's and Lisa from under 13 agreed to play in goals for us with Amy away. The girls worked very hard from the first whistle and within 20mins we had plenty of scores on the board, by half time we were 6.1 to no score. The first half was a great team effort with great displays all over the pitch but especially in the full forward line where we made great use of all the ball coming from mid field and the half forwards.Lisa and Lauren continued their scoring way with Lucy contributing with a goal from mid field and Ciara scored 3 goals from Corner forward. The backs fought very hard and supported lisa in goals which resulted in Boden not getting near to scoring.Orla and Lorna who covered the corner back positions with Katie out ill and Anne away did a fine Job, it was probarly the best game ever for Lorna. The second half was a slower game, some of our girls looked tired, we did not get any more scores and Boden got a consolation goal about 5 mins from time. All in all a good days work, no outstanding performances but solid play from the whole team, thanks to Emer and Helen from under 14's and Lisa from under 13's for their help on the day.
Under 15 camogie had an away game V Judes (normally our nearest rival in standard) on Sunday 2nd March, both Naf and Judes were short a few players, the conditions were tough, a very strong breeze on a sloping pitch that could have done with the grass been cut. Naf started very strong despite playing against the wind and the hill, all players worked very hard and alot of ball was put forward to our full forward line of Lisa, Brigitte and Katie P who were only two happy to take advantage of the amount of possession they were getting, and at half time the score was 6.1 to 2.0. the second half was a bit more scappy but still Lisa, khloe and Brigitte slotted scores home to finish the game 7.3 to 2.0. Lisa scored 5.1 Katie 1.0 Khloe 1.1 Brigitte 0.1.
Karen Cullen had a great game in half back marking Jude's best Player, Leah, who had already played a Dublin Football Match, did a great Job marking Judes other very good forward with Khloe and lucy in mid field winning the majority share of possession. The full back line (Katie Susan and Anne)did not have a huge amount to do but when they did they were very solid and protected Amy in goals very well. The half forwards fought well to win possession and put ball into the forward line and although the grass was very long they got the sliotar off the ground first time in most cases and put the ball forward despite a strong wind, Orla did very well supporting Aoife and Laura in the half forward line having not had too much camogie so far this season, and when she moved in the half backs in the second half she had a very good game.
So a good result considering there is never more than a few points between these two teams normally
League Starts 24th Feb with a home Game V N.Padraig
a Strong start to the League season for under 15 Camogie who had a big win over N. Padraig on Sunday morning on back pitch mobhi Road. Na Fianna were in charge right from the word go with very strong performances in mid field from Lucy and Khloe, with great support from the Half forward line of Laura, Aoife and Lisa which allowed the full forward line of Lauren score 5.1 and Katie P, in corner forward, take some great scores to give her a tally of 5 goals, other scores came from Lorna who took over the job of corner Forward from Brigitte, after 20 mins, form Lisa who scored a lovely goal and Khloe who took a point from her mid Field position with Aoife tallying in at 1.1 from center forward and Lucy getting a goal when she swapped position with Aoife with 15 mins to go. The half back line worked tireless to keep N Padraig away from goal with a very good performance from Eleanor in wing back, from Aine for the first 20mins in center back, replaced by Brigitte who also did a fine job, and from Orla who worked very hard and was on top form by the end of the game. our full back like of Katie, Susan and Anne didn't have much to do but did what was needed to keep the forwards of N. Padraig well away from Amy's goal, Amy only had one safe to make which she did well. so a good start to the seaon with 14.4 to 0.0 win.
A tougher challenges faces us next Sun - March 2nd away to Judes
Two more good challenges over the past two Saturdays, one versus Crokes under 16 and one versus Barrogs under 16.good performances at both resulting in a draw v Crokes and a good win over Barrogs.Match V crokes resulted 2.1 draw with scores from Lauren & Katie Pringle and a point from Lucy. some great performances all round, with particular good performance by Lucy and Lisa, with good fighting from Laura,Khloe,Eleanor and Orla, and great display from the full back line of Katie O shea, Susan and Anne and Amy in goals. We played Barrogs on Sat 16th which resulted in a good win, Scores from Lauren (2.0), and goals also from Laura, Katie P, Lorna and points from Lucy,Eleanor and Brigitte. again great performances all round, very strong back line with Orla, Susan, and Eleanor Lucy and Karen in half back, Khloe worked very hard in midfield and was well supported by the forwards in Lisa, Laura& Lauren and a good display by Lorna in the second half which resulted in her assisting both Laura and Lauren in their goals and in her scoring a goal herself,
A good challenge to start the season took place on Sat 2nd Feb between Na Fianna under 15A and Boden u15A. At half time there was little between the teams with the score at 1.3 to 3 points in Na Fianna's favour, but the Na Fianna girls came out in great form in the second half with a brilliant win of 8.5 to 1.5 at the final whistle.
the Majority of the girls played really well with Amy in Goals making some super saves and playing probarly the best game ever. she was backed up by a strong back line of Katie OShea (again probarly Katie's best game in a long time), Susan and Anne with a strong half back like of Eleanor,Lucy and Karen, all backs working hard to support Amy and keep the Boden forwards from scoring. Khloe and Aine did well in mid field with Khloe adding to the scoring in the second half ,also in the second Half Lucy moved out to Mid and Aine to center back and Lucy had a really super game from Mid enjoying the freedom of the position and putting many balls into the forward line, Laura Aoife and Leah all had a great games in the half forward line with aoife contributing well to the scoring and Laura fighting very hard and putting manys a ball into the forward Line, Leah as usual worked very hard throughout and covered back to help the back line when needed. Katie Pringle in the forward Line had a brilliant game and even scored two goals, probarly the best game she ever played, and Lorna and Brigitte both played well when they were on in full forward with Lorna scoring a real good goal in the second half, but our real star of the day was Lauren who joined us from the B team and made a wonderful contribution to the team scoring 2.1 in her first match for our team, she worked very hard thoughout and we welcome her to the team. Lisa played the first half in the forward line and worked very hard as did Ashling and Fiona when they came on to cover the back line in the second Half, Orla did not get much of a run as she got injured not long having come on to the pitch
but a good day overall for the team, great to see such good team spirit,
we finished the day with a sandwiches and goodies in the members bar, Boden really enjoyed the hospitality and want to return the favour in the coming weeks.
we plan to play crokes Sat the 9th 3pm back pitch and Barrogs Sat the 16th (timings to be confirmed) to keep the momentum going, both these teams will play under 16 so both will be good challenges for us
