U16 Division 2 Championship 2010 - Sept and (hopefully) Oct 2010
We will have three games in the group stage of the Championship. First is on Sept 4th vs Setanta, then 18th September home v Raheny and 25th Sept away v Kilmacud Crokes. All down for 10am Sat morning starts unless otherwise agreed.
If we win those three games we will be in a semi-final. These are our last games as juveniles with Na Fianna camogie (next year we will be u18 Minors) so we want all girls to give it their all at training and games for the next few weeks to try to go out on a high note.
Inaugural Pink Tournament July 24th and 25th 2010 A Na Fianna under 16 camogie team made up of under 16s, 15s and 14s proudly represented Dublin in the inaugural Leinster Camogie Pink Tournament in Thomas Davis GAA club on the weekend of 24th/25th July. A squad of 17 players, captained by our outstanding u16 full back, Michelle Gahan, battled gamely against Piltown of Kilkenny and Oylegate/Glenbrien of Wexford in the Division One group stages. Two narrow defeats qualified us for the Division One Shield Semi-Final. As luck would have it, St Vincents of Dublin narrowly defeated Oylegate/Glenbrien in the Cup semi-final. So we faced Oylegate/Glenbrien once more on the Saturday afternoon for a place in the Shield Final on the Sunday. A herculean effort by a bunch of girls who gelled so well during the course of the day was just not enough as the Wexford girls came out narrowly on top again. One feature of the day was the effort made by the u16 mentors to try to play girls in different positions on the field than they usually play. We hope this doesn't cause problems for our colleagues at under 15 and 14 with players demanding to be allowed switch positions like they were on Pink Weekend! So no wins for Na Fianna on the day but the other Dublin representatives, St Vincents, reached the Cup Final where they were beaten by Oulart the Ballagh from Wexford on the Sunday. Well done to all the Na Fianna girls who proudly represented the club in what is planned to become an annual tournament on the Leinster Camogie calendar. U16 girls: Michelle Gahan, Karen Cullen, Mary Brady, Isabelle Kelly, Erin Synott, Anna O'Hanlon, Róisín Ní Mhaolalaí, Lucy Brady, Sarah Monaghan, Chloe Richards, Emma Sanfey and Orla Keegan (This was Orla's first game for Na Fianna in over a year, having returned from Dubai for the summer). U15 girls: Clare Murray, Rachel Green U14 girls: Bláithín McQuillan, Vanessa Boland, Heather Deignan-Gough All the girls came away with a pink grip and a goodie bag of jewelry bits. Well done too to the other players who helped with the bag packing in Drumcondra Tesco but were not available for the tournament - pink grips will go to each of you. A total of €800 was given to the Tournament organisers for the Marie Keating Foundation for Cancer Awareness. Finally, well done to a great bunch of parents and friends who came out and supported the girls during the tournament. Here's to Na Fianna representing Dublin again in the Pink Tournament from next year on - and coming home with some medals along with the grips and goodie bags! PINK DAY Finals 24/25 July
Congrats - Comhghairdeachas! - The Na Fianna U16 Camogie team has qualified to represent Dublin in the inaugural Leinster Pink Day competition to be held in Thomas Davis GAA Club on the weekend of July 24th/25th. Full details will be posted as soon as we have them. The competition is loosely based on the same idea and format as under 14 Féile and this is the first year it is being run. Pink Day has been recognised by Leinster Council and will be an official under 16 competition so Na Fianna will have the opportunity to be crowned the first Leinster club champions of 2010! The title Pink Day has come from the fact that the weekend is being run as a fundraising event with all proceeds from the competition this year going to the Marie Keating Foundation. The Leinster Camogie Council see this as a wonderful opportunity for two female organisations to come together and to get the local community involved in supporting a really worthwhile cause. As a reward for qualifying, all U16 players and mentors have been instructed to cancel their holidays...only joking! We expect to be calling on our friends in U15, U14 and even U13 if necessary, to make up a panel for Pink Day.
FUN TEAMBUILDING - TUESDAY EVENING, 1ST JUNE
Great night of activity, craic and relaxation had by 12 stalwarts on Botanic Hockey Club all weather. Thanks to Phil Kelly for organising and to Angie for putting the girls through their paces. No training now till after the Junior Cert. Good luck to all the girls in their exams. Tógaigí go bog é- take it easy!
13TH MAY 2010. ANSWER ALL TEXTS! A NUMBER OF PLAYERS ARE NOT RESPONDING TO TEXTS ABOUT GAMES. THIS IS DISRESPECTFUL AND UNFAIR TO YOUR TEAMMATES AND TO YOUR MENTORS. IT IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AND WILL NO LONGER BE TOLERATED. THOSE WHO HAVE FAILED IN THIS REGARD WILL BE SPOKEN TO INDIVIDUALLY BY MENTORS IN THE COMING DAYS.
(AS A RESULT OF THE ABOVE WE HAVE HAD TO CONCEDE OUR LAST TWO GAMES AS WE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH PLAYERS TO FIELD A TEAM.)
JUNIOR CERT COMING UP. WE ENCOURAGE ALL EXAM GIRLS TO STUDY HARD AND ALSO TO RELAX. CAMOGIE TRAINING AND GAMES ARE OPTIONAL BETWEEN NOW AND THE EXAMS. BUT IF YOU ARE NOT ATTENDING A GAME OR A TRAINING SESSION, YOU MUST STILL TEXT THIS INFORMATION TO THE MENTORS. SOME SAY GETTING OUT IN THE AIR WITH STICK AND SLIOTAR IS GOOD FOR THE HEAD. IT'S UP TO YOU! VERY BEST OF LUCK - JUST DON'T GET STRESSED!
Welcome Aboard - Fáilte ar bord
Welcome aboard the 2010 campaign of the 1994 Na Fianna camogie group. We'll be in Under 16 Division 2 this year after a character-building sojourn in Division 1 last year. As ever we need commitment from our players - turn up and focus at training, give us notice if you can't make training or matches. All help from parents gratefully accepted.
We have a panel of 24 players including two who will be making their debuts for Na Fianna this year and two who will be mainly playing with the u18s.
And we will have a new set of jerseys, generously sponsored by the Maples House Hotel, Iona Road, Glasnevin.
Match Reports
July ??th: Na Fianna 4-2 Setanta 6-6
July ??th: Raheny 1-0 Na Fianna 4-4
June 30th: Na Fianna 6-6 Naomh Mearnóg 0-2
With great help from super players from U14 and U15 panels, we beat a much depleted Mearnóg for the first time since the Féile two years ago. If by any chance we meet with Mearnóg again in the championship in the autumn, it will be a much different game as they will have all their players back. Great performances tonight from every one of our u14 and u15 guests. Helen played outfield for a change and excelled at corner back and midfield. Michelle went up front in the second half and scored 3-2. Kudos to Erin, Béibhinn, Sinéad and Aisling for playing for Mearnóg to make a game of it.
May 19th: Naomh Fionnbarra 0-3 Na Fianna 5-3
Finbar's, like ourselves, were struggling for numbers. They could only put out 12 players. We had 13 on the field and 2 subs - all thanks to 4 girls from U15 who helped us out on the night. And help us they did because they were outstanding all four. Without their dominance at midfield and their scores, this would have been a very close game. But with them, we won convincingly. Thanks to the girls and their mentors. We may be calling again!
May 15th: Na Fianna 3-3 Naomh Barróg 5-6
Both clubs agreed to play this as a friendly as we both needed some of our minors to make up teams. It was a close enough game. Good effort as usual from all.
April 14th: Na Fianna 6-3 Faughs Celtic 0-1
Bua mhaith do Na Fianna. Sadhbh ina captaen agus a céad scór do na Fianna faighte ag Dominique. Scil deas taispeáinte ag gach cailín. Gortaíodh Michelle sa dara leath agus thóg sí áit Helen sa chúl. Thaispeáin Eleanor dúinn an leibhéal atá sroichte aici agus í ag imirt le foireann Átha Cliath - bhí sí ar fheabhas ar fad. Helen, Megan, Michelle, Mary, Isabelle, Aisling, Róisín, Eleanor, Niamh, Erin, Dominique, Sadhbh, Lucy, Sarah agus Eimear D na cailíní a d'imir - laoch gach duine acu!
A good win. We were too strong for Faughs. Sadhbh was captain and Dominique scored her first goal for Na Fianna. Every girl showed nice skill. Michelle was injured in the second half and took Helen's place in goal. Eleanor showed us the level she has reached while playing for the Dublin team - she was outstanding. The girls who played were Helen, Megan, Michelle, Mary, Isabelle, Aisling, Róisín, Eleanor, Niamh, Erin, Dominique, Sadhbh, Lucy, Sarah and Eimear D - each one a heroine!
March 27th: Ballyboden St Endas 2-7 Na Fianna 1-3
Another solid performance. This team is improving with each game. We started slowly and Boden got the early scores but as the game progressed, we got better and better. We won the second half. With a bit of luck, we might have won the game! Great marking job by Niamh on Boden midfielder. First score of the year for Mary from a 45 poc. Great to see Isabelle and Mary coming up from our half-back line to the Boden goal area towards the end as we tried to force a goal or two to win the game. Great poc outs as ever right through from Helen. 15 played from start to finish. Well done all. Michelle captain for the day. First outing in our new jerseys, sponsored by The Maples House Hotel.
Tá an foireann ag feabhsú le gach cluiche. Jab marcála an-mhaith déanta ag Niamh. Céad scór na bliana ag Mary. Seansanna againn sa dara leath ach d'éirigh le líne lán cúl Bhaile Buadhain muid a stopadh. Michelle ina captaen. Agus geansaithe nua, urraithe ag Óstán The Maples House, orainn don chéad uair.
March 20th: Na Fianna 4-4 Thomas Davis 4-3
A first win in a competitive fixture for this team in almost a year and a half - since our victory in the U14 Div 2 championship final in 2008! Much rejoicing all round as we finally got back on a winning track. Great, honest effort made by all 16 who took part. Scorers Sadhbh, Sarah, Erin and Anna. But great performances all round from Helen, Michelle, Aisling, Megan, Mary, Isabelle, Dominique, Róisín, Béibhinn, Sinéad, Aoife and Eimear D. Thomas Davis had a real star in their number 11 Ciara who scored their full tally but we had 16 stars, not including the mentors. Hopefully, this year in Division 2 we will have more matches like this between evenly-matched teams.
Dian iarracht déanta ag gach cailín den seisear d'éag a d'imir. A céad cluiche mar chaptaen ag Dominique agus an bhua againn! A céad scór ó phoc óna lámh ag Sadhbh tar éis an-chuid scóranna ón talamh leis na blianta anuas. Athrú an-chiallmhar déanta ag Deaglán sa dara leath - Chuir sé Sarah sa líne lántosach in áit Dominique a chuaigh chun réaltimreoir Thomáis Dáibhís a marcáil. Bhuaigh Dominique an sliotar go gairid ina dhiaidh sin agus buaileadh i dtreo chúil Thomáis Dáibhí é. Rug Sarah buille fíochmhar ar an talamh air agus isteach sa líontán leis. Muid cúig phointe chun deiridh agus 10 nóiméad fágtha. Muid aon phointe chun tosaigh ag an deireadh. Go mbeirimid beo ag an am seo arís!
March 6th : Naomh Bríd 4-8 Na Fianna 1-0
You never know what standard you are going to meet in Division Two. Hopefully it will be seen that this Naomh Bríd team would have been better off competing in Division One and that the rest of the Division Two teams are more evenly matched. However, great effort shown by all the Na Fianna girls who never stopped trying. Dominique made her competitive debut today for Na Fianna and Anna took the bare look off the scoreboard for us.
